The Red Panda
A Poem Of Appreciation
Photo by Xiangkun ZHU on Unsplash
The Red Panda
To whom eluding is easy.
Asia’s resident acrobat
Unencumbered by risk of fall,
Awed Himalayan Houdini.
Gone, already, bashful spectre
Climbing out of comprehension,
Gladly veiled in tallest treetop,
Drawing loyalty like nectar.
Relentlessly adorable,
No glade can shade his stateliness.
Terracotta trapeze artist
Elfinly unignorable.

Red Pandas are among our favourite creatures at Paignton Zoo (just down the road from us).
We’ve learned which trees to spot them in, rust-red fur balls hidden high up among the leaves.
(Paignton Zoo is very much oriented towards conservation, especially of rare & critically endangered species.)
